Instagram bio ideas – turn your profile into an invitation

A great Instagram bio says in just a few lines who you are, what people get from you and where to find you – and ends with an invitation to your link. You have 150 characters of text, your name field and up to five links. Here you’ll find a simple four-line structure and lots of sample bios from different industries that you can tailor to yourself right away.

What makes a great Instagram bio

Your bio is the first thing people read when they tap on your profile out of curiosity. In two or three seconds, a glance turns into a follow, a call or a booking. That’s why a good bio answers the questions everyone has: What do you do? Where are you? And what can I do right now?

There’s more to your bio than the text. Profile picture, name, category, link and the contact buttons of a professional account work together like a little shop window. When everything fits together – the same logo, the same colors, the same tone as in your shop or on your website – your profile instantly feels familiar.

The four-line structure

Most bios that leave people wanting more follow a simple pattern. You don’t have to use all four lines – but each one is an opportunity:

  1. What you do: your service in plain words, just the way your customers would search for it – “Handmade bread,” “Complete bathroom remodels,” “Physical therapy and back training.”
  2. What makes you special: one sentence with heart – since when, how, with whom. “Family-run since 1962” or “With an eye for detail and a coffee while you wait.”
  3. Where and when: location, service area or opening hours. People nearby will feel like you’re talking right to them.
  4. The invitation: what to do next – “Preorder your cake via the link,” “Book online,” “Request a quote.”

Sample bios for bakeries, cafés and restaurants

The dots between the parts stand for line breaks. Swap in your own location, year and offer – and read your bio out loud once: Does it sound like you?

  • Bakery: “Handmade bread from the Old Town · Family-run since 1962 · Open daily from 6 a.m. · Preorder your cake via the link”
  • Pastry shop: “Cakes you won’t forget · Weddings, birthdays, just because · Consultations by appointment · Request your dream cake via the link”
  • Café: “Breakfast until 2 p.m. and cakes from our own bakery · Right in the city park · Reserve a table via the link”
  • Restaurant: “Regional cuisine with a view of the cathedral · Lunch specials Mon–Fri · New menu every season · Book a table via the link”
  • Farm shop: “Fresh from the field to your basket · Eggs, potatoes, seasonal fruit · Open Fri + Sat · This week’s specials in the link”

Sample bios for the trades

In the trades, location, services and trust are what count. References, your master craftsman certificate or apprenticeships fit beautifully into the second line.

  • Plumbing and heating: “Bathrooms, heating, heat pumps · Master craftsman business in Paderborn and the surrounding area · Before-and-after in our highlights · Request a quote via the link”
  • Electrician: “Power, lighting and smart home · Serving homes and businesses since 1987 · We train apprentices · Request an appointment via the link”
  • Carpentry: “Custom furniture made from solid wood · Every piece one of a kind · Workshop in Detmold · Tell us your idea via the link”
  • Painter: “Color that transforms rooms · Interiors, exteriors, facades · Serving the Höxter district · Get free advice via the link”
  • Roofer: “Roofs you can rely on · Pitched and flat roofs, solar · We’re hiring · Jobs and inquiries in the link”

Sample bios for practices, hair salons and beauty

Here it’s all about closeness and the good feeling of being in the best hands. A friendly tone and easy booking make it simple to find your way to you.

  • Physical therapy: “Move freely again · Physical therapy, back training, massage · Right in the heart of Bielefeld · Book online via the link”
  • Dental practice: “A smile that lasts · Preventive care, implants, pediatric dentistry · Wheelchair accessible · Book an appointment via the link”
  • Veterinary practice: “For dogs, cats and everything with fur · Office hours on Saturday mornings too · Appointments and emergency number in the link”
  • Hair salon: “Cuts with character and colors that glow · Coffee’s on the house · Tue–Sat · Grab your appointment via the link”
  • Beauty studio: “Time for you · Facials, lashes, nails · Peaceful studio in the Old Town · Book your favorite time via the link”

Sample bios for agencies, service providers and shops

If you offer services, a clear promise and a hint at who you work for win people over. In a shop, what draws people in is whatever just arrived.

  • Agency: “Social media for local businesses · Strategy, content, support · From Münster for all of North Rhine-Westphalia · Let’s meet – via the link”
  • Tax office: “Numbers that bring peace of mind · For freelancers, tradespeople and families · Digital and personal · First consultation via the link”
  • Driving school: “Get your license with a smile · Class B, BE and motorcycle · Theory Tue + Thu · Sign up now via the link”
  • Flower shop: “Bouquets with feeling for every occasion · Wedding and sympathy flowers · Order and get it delivered via the link”
  • Clothing boutique: “Favorite pieces for every day · New arrivals every Friday · Mon–Sat in the pedestrian zone · Just in – in the link”

Your name: the line with the biggest presence

Above your bio, your name appears in bold. Next to your business name, there’s room for a word that describes what you offer – like “Sommer Bakery | Bread and Cakes” or “Jana Keller | Physical Therapy.” That way, everyone knows at once what you’re about, even before reading your bio.

Your username (the one with the @) should be short, easy to say and ideally the same everywhere – on Instagram, Facebook and your bio page. Then people will find you even if they’ve only heard your name once in conversation.

Link in bio: from wow to action

The last line of your bio points to the link below it. Instagram allows up to five links, but only the first is visible right away. That’s why many businesses put their own bio page there, where everything important waits as a button: booking, preorders, menu, jobs, directions.

The beauty of it: when a new promotion starts next week, you just swap one button on your bio page. Your bio stays the same – and every post that mentions the link still leads exactly to where the excitement is right now.

Little tricks with a big impact

A few simple touches make your bio even more inviting:

  • Line breaks instead of a block of text: one message per line reads at a glance on your phone.
  • One or two emojis as signposts, for example a down arrow before the invitation to your link.
  • Your own hashtag, if your customers share photos of you – say, for your summer party or a wedding cake.
  • Turn on contact buttons in your professional account, so calling, emailing or getting directions to you is just a tap away.
  • Refresh your bio with the seasons: in December, your invitation might read “Preorder your Christmas goose.”

How tiaki helps you

With the tiaki bio page, the invitation at the end of your bio gets a beautiful destination: as many links as you like as buttons, your logo and cover image, 20 color templates or your brand colors, and a custom address at tiaki.me. Promotion buttons appear right on time for the start and disappear on their own afterwards – and you can see which button gets tapped most, without cookies.

Questions

What you want to know.

How long can an Instagram bio be?

Your bio text has room for 150 characters. On top of that, there’s your name above the bio and up to five links. Short lines with breaks read best on a phone.

What should every business bio include?

What you offer, where to find you and what to do next – for example, book an appointment or preorder. A sentence that shows what makes you special rounds off your bio.

Which link belongs in your Instagram bio?

Ideally a bio page that brings all your important destinations together as buttons. That way the link always stays the same, and for new promotions you just swap the matching button.

Can I use emojis in my bio?

Yes – used sparingly, they bring your bio to life and guide the eye, like a down arrow before the invitation to your link. What matters is that the text still makes sense without the emojis.

How often should I change my bio?

The core can stay the same for a long time. The last line with the invitation is what you can refresh for the season, a promotion or an occasion – so your profile always feels up to date.
